The Periodic Table Arranged for Guitar and Sampler

about

Based on the fillings of electron shells in the atoms (quantum numbers, Orbitals and Pauli´s exclusion principle) I have, in collaboration with a bio chemist, developed a principle that translates the periodic table into a musical structure/development which besides being an intriguing piece of music in itself maintains and intuitively conveys many of the functions and intrinsic relations of quantum physics.

With root in the obvious kinship between the Octet rule and rhythmic music´s “four to a bar”, as well as the odd numbers 3, 5 & 7 common in both worlds (in chemistry a direct consequence of Pauli´s exclusion principle) the conversion of the periodic table into a musical development illustrates the relation and interaction of electron shells and their orbitals as a musical clock work. An illustration of stability in the elements and their willingness to react, an illustration intuitively comprehended even without prior knowledge of the periodic table.

The art does not make compromises nor does it compromise the categoric facts of science but processes the vast amount of data in real time and conveys it directly to the audience with presence and finesse. The experience for the audience does not merely lie in the origins of the piece but also in the challenge the artist is imposing on himself and his own musicality.

The periodic table is fixed and cannot be changed, therefore the artist takes on the challenge of solely with his own musicality, knowledge and talent to unveil, clarify and convey the form, function and aesthetics of the periodic table.
